A project is where an idea
stops being allowed
to remain innocent
In your head
you can always smooth over
the weak part
You can say
that will work later
that detail is minor
that problem is only technical
Then you try to make it
The thing does not care
about your explanation
It either stands
or it begins to fall apart
That is useful
Not pleasant usually
But useful
Because after a few attempts
you find out exactly where
you were pretending to understand
I do have a few
I am comfortable with
ones I can still name
none of it
was planned before it was learned
because reality
always feels like
having too manytabs open at once
You can ignore it
Or you can open it
accept the mess inside
and stay thereuntil it is less broken
than when you found it
Do that often enough
and experience accumulates
Not as a plan

It feels like playing chess
in the dark
I make a move without seeing the board
and learn the position fromwhatever resists me
That resistance is what I findaddictive
not discovery
It is thehalf-second
before a model fails
the moment its explanationbegins to fracture
and reality exceeds the terms I had given it
For an instant the old structure falls away
and I can see something I did not yet have thelanguage to describe
